Secondary School

Prepared for a life with purpose

The Secondary years are exciting, creative and challenging years. Everything from robotics to exploring the great Australian outdoors, from learning an instrument to taking to the basketball court, from discoveries in the science labs to producing outstanding art works, from expressive writing or solving complex real-world problems to serving our local community. The Secondary years really are full of Opportunities Plus!

These are the years that our students think deeply about faith, establish their unique character, learn well with creativity, critical thinking, collaboration and skilled communication, and are challenged to look beyond themselves and to serve generously. The essence of a Secondary education at Hillcrest can be identified in the following four words: Faith, Character, Learning and Service.

Junior Secondary

Junior Secondary School (Years 7 - 9) is all about Identity and Innovation.

These are the years we give young adolescents every opportunity to explore and respond to the world in which they live. We provide a caring pastoral environment and a broad curriculum which caters for all students. Supported by dedicated professionals, students are progressively challenged to take measured risks and develop skills in resilience. They are encouraged and guided to explore their individual gifts and talents as they undertake a journey of discovery and grow in understanding and wisdom.

Senior Secondary

Senior Secondary School (Years 10 - 12) is all is all about Focused Futures.

These are the years where students are assisted to explore their place in the wider community and how they can live a life with purpose. Students have access to a wide range of subjects and are actively encouraged to become committed, confident and independent learners. The Senior Secondary school provides direction for multiple pathways to assist students with different career aspirations. Students are encouraged to extend compassion towards others and to show courage as they act as agents of change in a world which needs a message of hope.

Christian Faith & Values

Secondary years are particularly formative years, particularly in regards to commitment of faith in Christ and the ways of God.  Biblical principles and wisdom are threaded through every curriculum, discipline and subject linking faith and learning in relevant and meaningful ways. Every student undertakes Christian Studies and has the option to gain a Certificate in Christian Ministry through our Vetamorphous program in Years 11 and 12.

Service Learning

To develop an understanding of social justice and respect for others, students are provided with a number of Outward Learning opportunities. The College has established strong relationships with communities in Timor Leste and with the aid agency Samaritan’s Purse in Cambodia. These opportunities enable students to learn what it means to be the hands and feet of God in the world. Students can also participate in cultural and educational experiences such as the Japan Trip, German and History trip or VEX Robotics.

Student Leadership

Student leadership and voice are vital at Secondary levels. Leadership is developed through learning, guidance, role modelling and opportunity. We have a Student Representative Council made up of representative for all six Year levels as well as having our Year 11 and 12 Senate with two College Captains and two College Vice-Captains. Students are regularly involved in surveys and forums where they can share about their learning and contribute to the development of College life.
